How did you find Twirly Girls?
A coworker saw some pictures of pole dancing on my screen saver at work and asked if I was taking classes. I said yes I had taken a few classes in San Francisco… she said what about Twirly Girls right here in Pleasanton… What a pole dance studio just 3 blocks from where I work!!! Sign me up. She (my coworker) doesn’t take classes but knew about Twirly Girls. Boy am I grateful.
How long have you been a Twirly Girl?
March of 2012 – Woo Hoo I’m OTG this month!!
Did you pole dance before becoming a TG?
A few classes at S-factor. Just enough to wet my appetite but not enough to feel like I knew what the hell I was doing.
Which class(es) do you take? Who is your instructor?
Right now Im taking Tricks are for Chicks with Bel and then Pole Emotion with Jade on Thursdays and Sean Michael’s class on Saturday followed by Sexsational with Jade.
Which move were you most excited to nail?
I would be excited to… do an aerial invert followed by something else, anything else, with out it looking as if it is a major exertion… which it is for me…. I’m kinda done once I’ve climbed the pole THEN from a dead weight haul my ass over my head… they make it look so easy!!
Have you taken any workshops? Which was your favorite?
Alethea Austin: after only poling for a few months. Still too new to get a lot out of it but I was struck by her willingness to teach/share what she knows. Even with me the baby poler in the class.
Phoenix Kazree: still didn’t have the strength… but learned about flow and making the moves more of a dance not just one trick stacked on top of another. Again with the willingness to share.
And just recently Amber Richards… here again flow… moving from open to closed… from right to left… and it’s ok to pause and wait for the music to make a statement with the movement.
Favorite… So much to learn from each and each being so gracious… I’m grateful for the chance to take these kinds of workshops. How lucky are we?
Do you like to dance in heels or barefoot?
Like?? I am mostly dancing barefoot right now… but when I envision myself dancing it is always in heels. Heels add a whole new dynamic to dancing. The ground comes up faster (hello!)… Oh yeah and when your feet go over your head they sure do feel heavy! I’m reminded of the saying “the more you know, the more you know there is more to know.”
What is your favorite song to dance to (at this moment)?
Wow that’s hard. So many… What I’ve been listening to on my way to and from work this week is “Silhouette” & “The Storm” both by Mother Tongue… Never ever would have found this group on my own… Alethea uses their music on her stretching DVD. I am exposed to so much music from others in my poleing community. Stuff I never would have picked for myself and end up loving… Thank you.
