jennyHow did you find Twirly Girls?

A friend introduced me to Lori (Myers), and she introduced me to the studio back in January 2011.

How long have you been a Twirly Girl?

Tricky question for me! I dropped into a few classes and took some workshops between 2011 and 2012, but I’ve been consistently enrolled in classes at TG since July 2013.

Did you pole dance before becoming a TG?

I took classes at S Factor in SF for about 1 ½ years, but I consider that to be more feminine movement and free dance than pole. When I went to Pole Convention in July 2011, I was amazed and completely inspired to see what others were doing with pole fitness. I consider that to be my true starting point. I’ve taken classes at lots of studios in the Bay Area, and I picked up lyra (aerial hoop) this year too.

Which class(es) do you take? Who is your instructor?

I take classes weekly at TG with Sean Michael and Ellen. I am constantly learning and really enjoy the different dynamics of both classes (i.e., teachers, style, classmates). I also love taking classes with all the other TG instructors.

Which move were you most excited to nail?

Tough question! I get so excited about learning new tricks, and I’m always posting the newest tricks I’ve learned on Instagram. I was so stoked to do a titanic (without hands) the first time, and that’s my go-to pic when friends ask to see a pole photo. Now I really want an iron-X and a dead lift.

Have you taken any workshops? Which was your favorite?

Another tough question!! I’ve taken lots of workshops. I think it’s important for a number of reasons. They’re all good in their own unique ways. A couple of my absolute favorites have been Michelle Shimmy (always a blast!) and Sasja Lee.

Do you like to dance in heels or barefoot?

Both! I used to dance in heels consistently. I’ve moved toward dancing barefoot in class, but I wear heels when I’m dancing at home by myself. Random fact: I also like to wear my dancing heels while cleaning my house… It makes me feel like I’m working my leg muscles and core balance and adds a little fun into an otherwise mundane task!

What is your favorite song to dance to (at this moment)?

Revolution by Diplo – I love anything he does, and this song just resonates with me right now.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Leggings. Especially my new Black Milk leggings!! I just can’t help myself lately… They’re so cozy for warm ups. And, yes, I’m wearing a pair as I type this!!
