October Twirly Girl of the Month: Robin Silk

How did you find Twirly Girls? I found Twirly Girls through my wonderfully talented and10384036_10152767694992712_7217030836013903701_n inspiring instructor Ellen Lovelace. When she moved Studio’s so did I!

How long have you been a Twirly Girl? I have been a Twirly Girl for about a year and a half. I started here in April 2014.

Did you Pole Dance before becoming a TG? Yes, I took my first ever intro to pole class at S-Factor in SF quite a few years ago.  I fell in love with pole but felt SF was too far of a drive.  About a year or so later I found Poletential in Redwood City, and had my first real pole class with Ellen (Dr. Sultry).  I took classes on and off with Ellen for about a year and then finally made the commitment to become more regular.  About that time Ellen joined the Twirly Girls family and I followed her here.

Which class(es) do you take? Who is your instructor? I primarily take Ellen’s Saturday morning Pole Combos class and have been known to sneak in her Monday morning class here and there when there is a school holiday or break.  I have also taken classes with Grace and most recently I took a class with Bel.  All the classes have something great and different to offer and each instructor is a gem.  They all are extremely knowledgeable, supportive, caring and just lots of fun!

Which move were you most excited to nail? I would have to say when I first started poling and nailed my first Scorpio after repeated “almosts” that was a big exciting deal for me.  Now, I feel whenever I get a new move I am excited regardless of what the move is.  It’s all a learning process for me.  I love seeing progress in myself, even if it is just a baby step to a more difficult move.  I also am really excited to see my fellow twirlies nail their moves.  (Yes, I am that student that is clapping and cheering.)

Have you taken any workshops? Which was your favorite? I had signed up for 2 workshops at TG but they ended up being cancelled, so I am still a workshop virgin.

Do you like to dance in heels or barefoot?         I would have to say I like both.  I like 10959560_10152724607472712_2291443876006687535_ndancing barefoot when we are learning really tricky moves or twirls because I feel more grounded and balanced that way and I can focus on getting the mechanics of a move.  I like dancing in heels when we are working on a dancy, flowy piece.  I like the look of the longer leg and the sex appeal it adds to the dance. It feels powerful.

What is your favorite song to dance to (at this moment)?   12036392_10153218629977712_2373916837332969890_nI don’t know that I have a favorite song right now, aside from the one I will be performing to with my partner Patrick at Trick or Twirl.  I really enjoy the slow sultry songs because the tempo forces you to slow your moves down and linger.

What is your guilty pleasure? Outside of pole dancing, my guilty pleasure is dessert (and drinks) with girlfriends.  Also, because I’m a mom another guilty pleasure is pure “me” time.  Just time to do whatever I want regardless of what it is.
