I mentioned this to my class last week, but thought it was worth sharing with everyone. Everyone knows pole dancing and lotion don’t mix, but that’s not entirely true. If you are like me, dry skin actually hinders your grip on the pole. But there’s good news – there are several POLE SAFE LOTIONS you can use every day that will not leave an oily residue on the pole and do not pose a danger to yourself or other polers! You just need to use the right lotion. The key to finding the right lotion is to look at the ingredients – NONE of them should be any kind of oil. If you see the word “oil” in an ingredient, put it back on the shelf, it’s not pole safe!!!! A lotion you can safely apply before poling contains no oil, but you will see other moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, dimethicone or petroleum listed.
NO OIL!!!! Repeat after me – NO OIL!!!!!!! Got it? Good!
The best part is all of the lotions I’m going to list for you below are easily and readily available at very affordable prices at any Walgreens, CVS, Target, Safeway, etc! No need to buy overpriced, expensive products. Say bye bye to dry, ashy skin and pole with confidence!
The reigning favorite among polers I know right now is Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion (https://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Daily-Moisturizi…/…/B001459IEE). It’s a nice, relatively light, unscented lotion. Aveeno Baby Daily Moisturizing Lotion is also pole safe, and makes you smell like a newborn (if you’re into that). There are several different types of Aveeno body lotions you can buy and most, but not all, of them are pole safe. Always check the ingredients to make sure before you buy!
A good choice I like to use in the winter when I need a richer lotion is Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion with Aloe (https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Ultimate-Heal…/…/B008B9L6WS). I find it too heavy for warmer weather, but works great on winter dry skin and yes, pole safe!
Right now, I’m using and really liking Dove Baby Lotion (https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Dove-Lotion-Sensit…/…/B06WLMNLZC). There’s a unscented sensitive skin version and a scented, I-like-smelling-like-an-infant version as well, both are pole safe. It makes my skin nice and tacky so I stick to the pole!
Many of you may already know about Corn Huskers (https://www.amazon.com/Huskers-Oil-Free-Hand-T…/…/B0011Z1VD8), it is definitely pole safe. However, I don’t like it as much for a body lotion because I just personally prefer a more lotiony feeling lotion (Corn Huskers is more like a thin gel than a lotion in consistency).
This is by no means an exhaustive list, just a few lotions I have personally tried and had great success with. Please feel free if you hate having dry skin on pole days to try these or any other oil-free lotion. You’ll never have to worry about whether or not you’re going to class when you get out of the shower ever again! Just lotion up daily with a pole safe lotion and go. Happy poling everyone!
