How did you find Twirly Girls? I found TG through Google searches. I knew I’d be living in the bay area after graduation so I needed to find a new studio.
Did you pole dance before becoming a TG? I’ve been a TG for about 8months now and have been pole dancing on and off for roughly 6 years. With all the on and off training I’d say I have 3 years of experience.
Which class(es) do you take? I’ve been taking classes with Patrick for tricks and Morgan for flexi. I would love to take more but my work schedule wont allow for it.
Who is your instructor, instructors? Morgan and Patrick.
Which move were you most excited to nail? The move I was most excited to nail was definitely the Ayesha. It’s kinda that pinnacle move I feel that everyone advanced can do and it’s one of the very few 2 point of content tricks. I tried learning it way back in my second year of pole but it just felt so impossible! My elbows hyper extend so I needed to work extra hard to build the strength to keep my arms slightly bent or else..snap! Still have some issues with hyper extending now that I am working on Phoenix.
Have you taken any workshops? I actually have not taken any workshops yet but really looking forward to seeing what’s to come.
Do you like to dance in heels or barefoot? I used to dance only in heels! They’re really pretty and make legs look killer! But I really wanted to learn some tricks that involved using the bottom of your foot and when I discovered competitions..I needed to have that ability and flexibility with my trick options.
What is your favorite song to dance to? (at this moment) Oh gosh my favorite song to dance to…when I started my favorite was Lights by Ellie Goulding. Now..I wouldn’t pole to it but lately I’ve been enjoying 8teen by Khalid. I’m not very good at finding songs I like dancing to. I compete in the entertainment division so I have a lot of self enforced guidelines when it comes to performance pieces. It needs to be creepy in some way or silly. The music I like listening to is not the same I’d feel comfortable pole dancing to. Mostly because I feel incredibly awkward sexy dancing. It’s never been my thing. I wish I could but I just feel odd doing it. I cant take my self seriously I guess. Maybe it’s because when I started everyone wanted to be so sexy but its pole. There are times. Many times. When you’re learning a new trick and it’s not cute. You grunt and make facing it’s all part of it. I feel like I’ve embraced that aspect of it because I saw it made others around me feel less ..un sexy and show that making these ugly noises and faces acceptable. At least it made them laugh and I love making people laugh.
Do you have a Pole Dream, such as performing, competing? My pole dream would be to keep competing in the entertainment division and see where it takes me. I do kinda want to teach pole maybe someday but I’d want to learn to spot and figure out exactly what I’d want to teach.
If you wanted to say something about Twirly Girls, what would it be? One thing I’d say about TGs is that it is so welcoming and supportive. I love that the studio doesn’t have a strict vibe to it. Everyone comes here for the love of aerial sport and we all have our own styles and goals and it makes for such a fun and welcoming place.
What is your guilty pleasure? My guilty pleasure would be shopping at savers or goodwill. I absolutely love bargains.
Congratulations Emmy! Emmy is an amazing pole performer and recently won a Gold Medal at the 2018 Golden Gate PSO in her division. Her routines are always so fun to watch and amazing…Emmy has such a great smile and always helpful to her other TG’s.
